Cement, Plaster Rendering Surfaces:
Plaster, brick, stone, cement, rendering, block work, fair-faced concrete, etc require particular attention to arrive at a neat satisfactory painting assignment. It is generally recommended that painting may commence two to three moths after final plaster to avoid water dampness related defects and faults.
Preparation:
Ensure the surface is dry. Remove all loose dust and efflorescence with stiff fibre (dry) brushes. Do not commence painting until it has been ascertained that efflorescence has ceased.
Specification
- Exterior
Apply one coat of exterior quality emulsion paint thinned with clean water in accordance with the manufacturers/instructions to suit the type of substrate. The fist coat of paint applied to rough textured, dry and porous surfaces will require additional thinning to ease application.
This may be followed by an oil based undercoat, Duracoat Royale all Purpose Premium Undercoat and completed with two or three coats of Duracoat Royale Classic Matt, Duracoat Royale 100% Pure Acrylic Outdoor Protector or other relevant exterior coating.
- Interior
Steelfloat plaster and smooth surfaces should be sandpapered to remove all nibs and imperfections. Apply one thin, sealer coat of emulsion paint. When dry, fill hairline cracks and holes with crack filler or equally approved filler, sandpaper smooth and dust clean. Apply two further coats of emulsion paint (slightly thinned with water if recommended by the manufacturer). Allow a minimum of 4 hours between coats.

Woodblock Floors (and general timber surfaces if a clear finish is specified)
Parquet woodblock flooring and general timber surfaces to be coated with a clear finish should be treated as follows;
Preparation:
Sand clean and dust off and ensure wood is completely dry. Wipe clean with a cloth and White Spirit just prior to application.
Specifications:
Three to four coats of Duracoat One-pack Polyurethane Varnish or Duracoat Two Pack Polyurethane Varnish. The first coat should be thinned moderately with relevant thinner. Rub down with fine abrasive paper (preferably wet) between coats, dust off and wipe clean to obtain a completely smooth finish.
It must be clearly understood that the application of any type of paint finish, even the most expensive, cannot be regarded as a permanent solution to wood floor neatness although periodic cleaning of the tiles will still be required. |
